“She stole my heart, not long ago.

Now it’s time for her to play the thief again”. (Verse 1)

Ah the Honeymoon. When all is right with the world and the only cares we have are for each other. Sleep in, then sleep some more. Eat, drink, be merry, and be happy to be married. If only this could last forever. Right?

Well, this is the first day of the Honeymoon. Sometimes the second day brings some odd characters to the mix. Expectations being one character. The hope that day two will be just a great as day one, or, better yet, exceed day one! There are other characters in this story you probably know all too well if you’ve been married for longer than two days. Whether we want to admit it or not, we can be a bit selfish with our better half. And that is what you call them, right?

Capture me again is written about getting back the Honeymoon and keeping it. Yep, it’s possible, but we have to keep it alive. Remembering that love, just is. It’s not a job with a clock in card. And when life caves in around us, there is a place we can go that makes it all go away, your better half’s arms.

There is a play on words with the lyrics to this song that uses stealing, incarceration and such, in a good way… read the lyrics at this link – http://www.rhonvanerman.com/Capture_Me_Again_Lyrics.pdf

Remember when all you could think about was how soon it would be until you saw them? That’s it. Keep it alive!

“As Close As You Will Get”

Risks, you take them everyday. No risk, no reward. Some small, some take a lot of give. Those who give, get.

There comes a point in the heat of the moment that you have to take a chance. Deciding on a relationship, a dream to chase, a job change. Not a blind leap, but a leap of faith. When you don’t know the outcome and you wish you had a sign. But sometimes breathless, you have to choose. This could be it. Because, “this moment just might be, as close as you will get, this side of heaven.”

These are lyrics and thoughts taken from the writing of the song “This Side Of Heaven” from the Revolution CD. I hope that this song will be an inspiration to “live” your days and not wait until it’s too late. And in addition, to be able to say if it didn’t work out that you gave your all and have no regrets!

The lyrics to the entire song can be read from my website here – Lyrics to “This Side Of Heaven”

Thanks for reading. Blessings

Telly Award #2! –

The call, the email, or whatever form it comes, the sound on the other end of the line telling you of the recognition of your peers always sends a jolt of excitement through your being. The gift God gave me I chase with a passion that would be pleasing to Him and to all that it may touch. The icing is when others in your craft note your work and reward you for it.
In the provided picture I am holding Telly Award #2 for one of the videos from this blog for the recording of the Revolution CD. Pictured along with me is Darrell Powell, owner of Studio D in the sleepy town of Summitville Indiana. It’s not the place you live but how you live in the place you are.
This is a great honor, and I would like to recognize some of those who have helped with the making of these videos.

Jared Powell – Cabin14films
Garrett Matney – Cabin14films
Darrell Powell – Studio D
Dane Clark – Drums
Randy Melson – Bass
Phil Maxwell – Back round vocals

These are just a few of the people who were involved not only in the video but the recording of the Revolution CD, thank you all for your expertise!
Onward and upward! This day I have and I will seize, the best of what is given me.

Hook –
The Wanted Man, will he be the one?
To break the chains, and be the wanted man –

Breaking the chains of the unknown, the past, the hurt, the list goes on and on. The second video release from the Revolution CD is the song “Wanted Man”. It deals with wading into the waters of the unknown one step at a time. The trust, attraction, and all the things that go into choosing the one we think could be the right choice.
One of my favorite lines is –

She wanted him, to be the one
To sweep her away and not be just a dream

If you are looking for a life long mate, you have the dream, however, reality may take a bit longer than we like. Here is the music video, enjoy and best wishes ladies for finding your Wanted Man.

The “Revolution” CD Is Live!

The “Revolution CD was released Tuesday, March 5th, 2013. This was an amazing day that I will not forget! Watching iTunes, CD Baby, YouTube and all the other places that this recording was going live around the world was awesome. I will continue to say that when we lose the amazement of what is afforded to us, we’ve lost gratitude of the blessings that surround us.
I am grateful that this medium of expression called a Music Blog, has given me a more detailed way to share with you how a song starts and continues to grow as time moves on. This body will one day breathe it’s last, but the songs created will live on. These are the things we pass on to our children, how we reacted to life, and what it all meant. Yeah, maybe that’s deep, but without connecting on this level with your family, friends and fans, life is just going through the motions. So, thank you for sharing in this ride with me. Remember the definition that is used for revolution is – “A sudden, radical, or complete change”, and my hope is you experience one of these in your life to make everyday count!

“The Vacuum That Sucks”

Hmm, quite a title eh? The only vacuum that sucks and does a great job is my sweeper. It does a great job of making the carpet look and feel so nice and I like that. However there is another vacuum that can suck the life right out of you, being or thinking you are an island. I will refer to the saying “No man is an island”. When I was a kid I had no idea what my teacher was talking about but as I started to work with others in sports, rock & roll bands, etc, it all became very clear, even the greatest of my talents need the inclusion of others to really make them shine. The other saying that has gotten a lot of shout lately is “There is no I in the word Team”. Yea, there may be some great things someone can accomplish on their own but they really miss out on the entire experience of life when they don’t involve others and will never achieve their best potential. Besides, sharing the victory with others is a richer experience compared to patting yourself on the back. That makes your arm hurt just reaching around to try it anyway!
I am dedicating this blogpost to all those that have helped me with the pre and post production of the Revolution CD. For most of you that read this these people are total strangers, and at one time, some of these people were total strangers to me as well. And there you go, the vacuum. If I didn’t talk with others, ask questions, involve myself with them to be the best I could be, I never would have met some of these vibrant people. So I’ll just settle for the only vacuum I need, and that’s the one that sucks dirt, not the breath of life I receive from others.
I’ve also included in this post a picture of The Telly Award that was given for my video “The making of She’s Everything I Need”. This was produced by Cabin14films and recorded at Studio D. Always good to be recognized for your work! Now I give
my deepest gratitude and thanks to –

My Father in Heaven, my Wife & Son, my parents, Lynn Graber at the Recording House, Andy Symons (formerly at The Lodge Recording Studio), Darrell Powell at Studio D, Jared Powell & Garrett Matney at Cabin14films, Randy Melson (Bass), Dane Clark(Drums), I miss playing with you guys more often but it’s great being able to pick up where we leave off, Phil Maxwell (Back Round Vocals), the wonderful people at Disc Makers and CD Baby & Greg Chupp. I would also like to thank my Wife for the perfectly packed cooler with my lunch and treats to sustain me for my drive to the studio and the hugs from you and our son that got me there and back! And you, my fans, you give fuel to the fire on this journey. When I complete a song one of the things I can’t wait to do is share it with you. I am blessed and grateful 🙂

The Road Most Traveled

So often the focus is “The Road Not Traveled”. Take the risk, it could be just the path you needed and on and on… But what about the road you travel everyday, are you seeing all that there is, or wondering, perhaps wishing, that you were on another road?
Well, It’s Sunday, the day of rest and reflection. But the last four months I haven’t been home on this day, but on the road to record the “Revolution CD, and I’m almost there…
As I’m doing some of the final approvals this week for the “Revolution” CD I decided to look through the pictures I had taken on my way to the recording studio. This indeed has been a journey recording this project, however I’ve never been able to document the process so well, especially with something that fits in my pocket! I can take pics, video, update social media and even blog from my iPhone. To me that is amazing, and I don’t want to ever lose that “wow” factor of anything that is amazing in this life. Some of the cool things that intrigued me was watching the seasons change, the inspiring sunrises, and even the beauty of a plain ole corn field in the middle of central Indiana. That saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” really makes sense when you can see beauty in a corn field. Life is a sit down dinner, not a drive-thru! As my walk in this life continues I have learned to always look for the blessing, even when it’s not so evident. When I was looking through the attached photos they told the story, the journey, the commitment of making these songs come to life. The various times that give a glimpse into the moments that were fleeting, never to be seen again in the same way. Then came the “A-ha” moment. Just like the pictures caught in a moment in time, so were the songs. Like getting out of bed at 5:00 a.m. to write the lyrics to “When The Lightning Crashes In” when I would’ve rather stayed in bed. Getting an idea for a guitar riff in the shower and scrambling to find my recorder. If you don’t get the idea then, it won’t come back the same way, if ever again. Hugging my family goodbye on a Sunday afternoon and praying that God would protect my travels, and that I would return to hug them again, all, moments of the journey that are on the “The Road Most Traveled”. This sit down Sunday was encouraging to me and I hope it is to you as well. Wishing, hoping, dreaming are all good things but should not be overshadowed by living each day and moment on the road we’ve been given. It may just be your dream in disguise.

-Rhon

“Never Look Back”

Heroes

Words, are they enough? At times one word of encouragement may just be what someone needs, however they often need a partner, action. By itself an action can be misunderstood. But action and words together are the true marriage of communicating thoughts and feelings. One without the other falls short in it’s voice.
“Never Look Back” is my voice of encouragement to those who have served and those continuing to serve our country.
To give one’s life for another seems to silence words and action into a time where we stand still, in the quiet, where we remember or pray for protection of a loved one.
Not one American can say they haven’t been affected in some way by our service men and women. Without them we are unprotected and left vulnerable to any intrusion. Even the freedom to write this blog comes with a price, their sacrifice. The lyrics to Never Look Back have a “Let’s Roll” feel to them. Staring death in the face and pulling every ounce of courage from your soul you can find. I’ve heard many stories of going into battle from my own Dad and can only listen and imagine what it was like. And stories from students who talk of coming home and dealing with the mental aspects of what had happened. Dreams and flashbacks are something they live and deal with daily.
Upon occasion I have gone up to a total stranger in uniform and just said “Thank You”. A small action but it speaks volumes to each one serving.
In my post this time there are lyrics without a video or music to hopefully help all of us stop in the quiet of reading these words to remember, pray for protection, or just give thanks to those who protect our freedom. The music will accentuate the intensity of the lyrics.

Verse 1 –
Sometimes deep in the night, dreams won’t go away
And this demon staring me down, I know one day he’ll pay
Time to stare him face to face..

Chorus –
And to throw down every caution to the wind
Coz’ we’ll go down swingin’ hard, right to the end
And Never Look Back

Verse 2 –
Right now is the time not to give in
And believe in every word that we are sayin’
Fear will wash away

Chorus –
When we throw down every caution to the wind
Coz’ we’ll go down swingin’ hard, right to the end
And Never Look Back….

Rhon –
